Niall McCracken joined Below The Radar in July 2008, having completed his post graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Sheffield. After working in BBC and commercial radio, he returned to Northern Ireland where he was first employed as a video journalist and won a CIPR Press Award for his work with Fermanagh TV. He later worked as a researcher on several of BTR's programmes and documentaries for the BBC, including "In Your Corner", "Robinson" and "Hume". He shoots and edits the video for The Detail and has broken stories for the site focusing on accountability in healthcare. In 2012 he was named Newcomer of the Year in the CIPR Media Awards and also won the Martin O'Hagan memorial bursary. He won Production Journalist of the year at the 2014 NI Media Awards. At the 2015 ceremoney he won two major awards including the award for Digital Journalist of the Year. His special reports on accountability in healthcare won Campaign of the Year. Niall also won silver in the category of Scoop of the Year for an expose on the recycling of metals from human remains after cremations in Northern Ireland.
